How often do you add new rooms?

We try to add several new rooms each week.  Subscribe to our RSS feed to be notified when new room designs become available.

When will I get my design plan?

When you finish your checkout, you will be taken to a download page, where you should immediately download your report.

What if I don't like, or don't need something in the design?

The report contains weblinks to purchase each item individually. If there's something you don't wish to buy, don't buy it.

Do all the wood pieces in the room match?

No - "match"  is a dirty word.  All of the wood items in the room blend.  Having all matching pieces is about as dated as peach / mauve / seafoam green.  What you want are pieces that support the overall design of the room, and that play nicely together.  Doing this accomplishes two things:  Aesthetically, it makes the room look like it has grown over time - not like you went to the department store and bought a set of something.  Functionally, it gives you MUCH more flexibility moving forward.  If something happens to a piece, or you tire of something, you can replace that single item, rather than the entire room. 

How is the room cost calculated?

The cost listed for each room is the total of the selling price for each item, mutiplied by the number of that item needed.  For example, if there are eight dining chairs, all eight chairs are included in the cost.  Selling costs are periodically reviewed for accuracy, but because we are not affiliated with the manufacturers / vendors, the listed price cannot be guaranteed.  Also, due to the variations from state to state, taxes and shipping (where applicable) are not included.  Some items, like drapery, are estimates, since we cannot know the size and number of windows in your space. All beds and bedding are calculated using queen size, except in childrens' rooms, where twin size is used.

How is the designer version cost calculated?

The "designer version" cost is what the price would be if you hired us to custom design this space for you, using very similar (sometimes almost identical) high-end custom pieces.  It should be noted that that price doesn't even include our design fees, so really, the price would be quite a bit higher!

Where can I get more information on the pieces?

When you purchase your report, you will receive the link to the website for each item, which will have complete descriptions available. Of course, if you need more info than you find there, you can call the manufacturer's customer service.  All furnishings purchases are made at your own risk and responsibility.  GTRC is responsible for the room design and report only.

What manufacturers are represented in your designs?

Oooh... sorry, that's classified, but the reports are reeeeeeeally cheap if you'd like to find out! :)

What if I don't like a piece when it arrives, or if it arrives damaged?

Make sure to read the manufacturer's return policy for each item carefully, BEFORE purchasing.  GTRC is not in any way affiliated with the manufacturers / vendors whose products we use in our designs.

What level of quality are the pieces in the designs?

It varies. As with anything in life, you get what you pay for. If you want top quality, you'll need to hire us to give you the “designer version” of the room, at the designer price. That said, many pieces are truly excellent quality, at or near wholesale prices... it's just a matter of knowing where to look. Some items are more for show than for abuse (meaning they are fine for regular use, but may not hold up to your three children stomping on them), and many will require assembly. In general, we have tried to ensure reasonably good quality with the primary functional pieces in the designs. Bear in mind that the “Rooms Under $2000” category is designed specifically to give you a finished, beautiful room on a very tiny budget – heirloom quality and durability not necessarily included.

How do I order the pieces?

Purchase the report, click on the links in the report, and purchase the pieces directly from the manufacturer / vendor. There are a VERY limited number of items that need to be ordered by phone.

How long does it take to get the pieces after I order them?

It depends on the manufacturer / vendor. As long as the items are in stock, most will arrive in a couple of weeks, with many shipping within DAYS. Some upholstery and window treatments may take longer.

What if a piece is unavailable when I try to order?

If the piece is backordered, you will simply have to wait for the backorder. We check regularly to make sure all items remain active, except where substitutions are already listed. Should you find something actually DISCONTINUED, please notify us using the form on the "Contact Us" page, and we will supply a substitution. (Note: The substitution will be the designer's choice, and will become the permanently posted substitution on the website.)

Is there any customization available?

Nope. Gotta hire a designer for that, but I know where you can find some. :)
